Riverside School District #2 is located on the near Westside of the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. Our district is made up of a combination of large commercial trucking property and newer residential properties. While small with 785 students on two campuses, we have the advantage of the commercial property’s tax base to support many technologies that are unavailable to many large schools.

We invite you to use our district Web site to learn more about our programs, our schools, and especially our successes. For information about employment with Riverside, click on our employment area, visit our School Tax Credits page to contribute to our extra-curricular programs, review the district calendar, and much more. If you have any questions or comments, we hope you’ll feel free to contact us directly.

Dear Riverside Elementary School District Parent:

Riverside School District has taken on a new direction and role this year. Even with the economic hard times that have struck all Arizona schools, Riverside has rededicated itself to education. Our unique situation of being a $0.00 state aide district lends itself to a unique way of budgeting and support for our students.

In education there are only two things we deal with – Staff and Stuff. Education is a balancing act between having the right amount of staff supported by the right amount of stuff. Then the Administrations job is to get the right stuff, to the right staff, at the right time. Sounds simple doesn’t it? To that end, our staff, administration, and board is dedicated to continual improvement in our educational programs.

Over the last six months Riverside implemented an aggressive plan to install SMART Boards in academic classrooms at Kings Ridge School. A SMART Board interfaces with a computer and images are displayed on the board using an LCD projector, which is mounted to the ceiling. Users can control the software from either the teacher’s computer or the SMART Board, manipulate the images with the touch of a finger, and add notations or drawings to the displayed lesson that can then be saved to the teacher’s computer.

We have a bank of computers in every classroom for students to work on individual skills that are tailored to their needs. We have a state-of-the art computer lab at Kings Ridge that allows teachers to bring in classes for group instruction.

We are implementing our Student Recordkeeping software with the goal of having parent access from home to see how their children are doing at any given time. Our goal is to have this up and running in the spring.

We have all new textbooks and materials for all our subject areas. Each of these new series is tied to the Arizona Standards and is supported by computer software that will allow teachers to track student’s progress as never before.

BOARD OPENING:

The Governing Board here is made up of three people. We have one that chose not to run again and will be replaced in January by an elected person. However, due to a resignation, we now have a second opening that will be replaced by appointment made by the County Superintendent.

If you are interested in filling this open position, please contact the office at (602) 477-8916 for information on how to apply, or call the County Superintendent’s office. The Board meets once a month in regular session and meets additional times when needed. It is an important position and does take a commitment of time beyond the meetings to go to Arizona School Board Association trainings and in-services. There is no pay for the position, but any expenses incurred are paid for.

Once again, we look forward to working with you this school year!

Sincerely,
Richard W. Stokes
Superintendent/Business Manager
